Writing: 4/5 The Michael Vey books are primarily written in 1st person, though there are usually 3rd person sections about Recommended for: Ages 11 to Adult I wish I didn't have to wait until next year for book 5. But after getting Michael Vey 1: The Prisoner of Cell 25 from the library, we have bought every Michael Vey book as they are released. I mean, it's an occurrence so rare it's practically nonexistent. Recommended for: Ages 11 to Adult Rating: PG (mild romance and action violence) My sisters and I almost never buy books new. I’m also not crazy about the audio narrator, mostly because I have a firm idea of how the characters sound. There are a few things to nitpick, like how a watch would still run after being thoroughly soaked, and no way is Jack walking, swimming, and lifting with eleven broken ribs. The rest is exciting with plenty of action. The first third is a bit slow, with lots of planning and hanging out. The last two pages set up a cliffhanger for the next book, so try not to read them if you haven’t yet, at least until the next book is out. The second half is nearly non-stop action with plot twists and surprises and action and everything else. Some might think this is a slow part, but I was glad they got a break, and it helped round out the character development. As always, this was so fun to read.įor about the first half of the book, our heroes get a break from danger and get to reunite with their families and be friends for a while.

Even by occasionally switching "(name) said" to "said (name)" would help tremendously. Someone REALLY needs to get the editor or author a thesaurus with the synonyms for "said" bookmarked and highlighted. I was surprised how much action wasn't in it. It's a fun story and my kids really like it. If someone asks a question, the customary thing to do is to say "asked" or the like, not "said."
